Particleboard (PB) – PB is used in the construction of cabinets and furniture. Currently PB is made with urea formaldehyde (UF) adhesive. UF, while inexpensive and strong, emits high levels of formaldehyde off gasses. HRT’s soy adhesive eliminates the formaldehyde and is slightly more expensive than UF.
Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) – MDF is similar to particleboard. It is used in place of particleboard when a higher quality product is desired. HRT’s formaldehyde free adhesive has been successfully trialed for MDF and we are in the process of finalizing the formula for scale up.
Hardwood Plywood (HP) – Hardwood plywood is used in the construction of cabinets, furniture, and other interior construction components. Currently, UF is the adhesive of choice for these products. HRT’s formaldehyde free adhesive has proven to be an equal substitute for plywood while also lower in cost.
Oriented Strand Board (OSB) – OSB is used in the construction industry for wall, floor, and roof sheathing. Currently OSB is made with either phenol formaldehyde (PF) adhesive or isocyanate (MDI) adhesive. HRT’s soy adhesive reduces the formaldehyde content and is considerably less expensive than PF or MDI.
